Prof. Yehuda Shoenfeld is the founder and head of the Zabludowicz Center for Autoimmune Diseases, at the Sheba Medical Center, which is affiliated to the Sackler Faculty of Medicine in Tel-Aviv University in Israel. Professor Shoenfeld’s clinical and scientific works focus on autoimmune and rheumatic diseases, and he has published more than 1750 papers in journals such as New Eng J Med, Nature, The Lancet, Proc Nat Acad Scie, J Clin Invest, J Immunol, Blood, FASEB, J Exp Med, Circulation, Cancer and others. Professor Shoenfeld is on the editorial boards of 43 journals in the fields of rheumatology and autoimmunity and is the founder and the editor of the IMAJ (Israel Medical Association Journal), the representative journal of science and medicine in the English language in Israel, and also is the founder and Editor of Autoimmunity Reviews (Elsevier) (Impact factor 7.9) and co-Editor of the Journal of Autoimmunity (Impact factor 8). For the past twenty years Yehuda has been the Editor of “Harefuah” – The Israel Journal in Medicine (Hebrew). Professor Shoenfeld received the EULAR prize in 2005, in Vienna, Austria. In UC Davis, USA, Professor Shoenfeld received the Nelson’s Prize for Humanity and Science for 2008. He was recently awarded a Life Contribution Prize in Internal Medicine in Israel, 2012 as well as the ACR Master Award in 2013.

Dr. Pedro A. Jose is Professor of Medicine, University of Maryland School of Medicine, Adjunct Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular & Cellular Biology, Georgetown University School of Medicine and Visiting Professor, Third Military Medical University of the People’s Republic of China, Chongqing, P.R. China and Anhui Institute of Cardiovascular Disease, Anhui Provincial Hospital, Anhui, P.R. China. He has been invited as a guest lecturer in several universities in Australia, China, France, Germany, Ireland, Japan, Portugal, Sweden, Philippines, and USA and plenary speaker in several international meetings of learned societies. Dr. Jose received his MD degree, magna cum laude, meritissimus, from the University of Santo Tomas, Philippines, and placed first in the Philippine National Board Examinations in Medicine and Surgery. He received his PhD degree in Physiology from Georgetown University, Washington, DC and defended his dissertation with distinction. He is certified by the American Board of Pediatrics, American Sub-Board of Pediatric Nephrology, and American Society of Hypertension. He was President of the American Society of Pediatric Nephrology. Dr. Jose has chaired and continues to chair Study Sections and Emphasis Panels of the US National Institutes of Health and voluntary organizations, such as the American Heart Association and National Kidney Foundation. He reviews grant applications in foreign countries, including Italy and the Czech Republic. Dr. Jose has extensive experience in basic and translational research. The primary goal of Dr. Jose’s research is to determine the genetic bases of human essential hypertension. He has published over 340 scientific articles in prestigious journals and books including Circulation Research, Hypertension, Journal of the American Society of Nephrology, Journal of Clinical Investigation, Nature Genetics, and Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. His publications are cited more than 7,800 times with 41 cited more than 50 times, 17 of which are cited more than 100 times; four are covers of scientific journals and six are the subject of editorial commentaries. Dr. Jose has received several academic awards, including the 2003 Lewis K. Dahl Memorial Lecture (Council for High Blood Pressure Research, American Heart Association), 2007 Ernest H. Starling Distinguished Lecture (American Physiological Society Water and Electrolyte Homeostasis Section) and a 2007 MERIT award from the National Institutes of Health. He is a fellow of the Council for High Blood Pressure Research, American Heart Association. A key finding of Dr. Jose’s research is the demonstration of the crucial role of variants of a gene “G protein-coupled receptor kinase type 4 or GRK4” in the pathogenesis of high blood pressure in humans. Dr. Jose also showed that variations of GRK4 are very important in predisposing an individual to develop salt-sensitive high blood pressure. These studies have resulted in a patent in the US (# 6,660,474) and Japan (#4652566), patent-pending in Europe and Australia) and a provisional patent on “Compositions and Methods for Identifying and Diagnosing Salt Sensitivity of Blood Pressure” (US Provisional Patent Application #61,636,576).Variants of GRK4 may also predict the response to anti-hypertensive drugs, an example of pharmacogenomics. Four of his National Institutes of Health research grant applications received perfect scores of 10 (Project 3 of 5P01HL074940 [2009], Project 4 of 5P01HL068686 [2012], HL092196 [2013], and R01DK039308 [2011]). Dr. Jose’s research is currently funded by three R01 grants in which he is the principal investigator, two P01 grants in which he is the director of program projects, and one grant from pharma. Deciphering the role of GRK4 gene variants, in the pathogenesis of human essential hypertension, was the second advance and discovery cited by the Director of NHLBI for its FY 2004 Budget Justification to the US Congress.

Dr. Yong-Xiao Wang has been a Full Professor in Department of Molecular and Cellular Physiology at Albany Medical College since 2006. Dr. Wang obtained his MD at Wannan Medical University, PhD at Fourth Military Medical University, and postdoctoral training at Technology University of Munich and University of Pennsylvania. He has made many important findings using complementary molecular, biochemical, physiological, and genetic approaches at the molecular, organelle, cellular, tissue and organism levels in animals and human samples, had numerous publications in Nature Commun (impact factor: 14.290), Antioxid Redox Signal (8.209), Proc Natl Acad Sci USA (9.432), Nature (34.480), Circ Res (9.214), and other highly peer-reviewed journals and academic books, and served as the editorial board member and/or section editor as well as the executive committee member and/or subcommittee chair for professional societies.

Dr Fusco completed her PhD in Applied Biology and Experimental Medicine by University of Messina and Yale University School of Medicine. She worked as researcher for studies on biochemical activities (in vitro primary cultures and in vivo experimental models) for the Epitech Group, biological company. Now she is an Assistant Professor of Biochemistry at the Chemical, Biological, Pharmaceutical and Enviromental Science Department of the University of Messina, Italy. Dr Fusco has a long-lasting expertise in the induction and management of in vitro and in vivo models of inflammation and oxidative stress, which is documented by more than 100 papers published on international refereed journals. Her areas of scientific interest are the role of oxidative stress in autoimmunity, inflammation and neurodegenerative disorders; nutritional antioxidants and modulation of signal pathway.

Dr. Coletti received a BA from Georgetown University College of Arts and Sciences. He received a Master of Arts from Hofstra University. He received his MD from State University of New York at Downstate. His medical internship and residency was performed at Nassau County Medical Center in East Meadow, NY. He did two years of cardiology fellowship at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York and then transferred to Westchester County Medical Center where he completed one year of Interventional Cardiology fellowship. He was awarded FACC, FASNC, and FSCAI fellowship status. Current interest is chronic muscle spasm and pain. He has proposed The Ischemic Model of Chronic Muscle Spasm and developed the CMECD® procedure for treatment of chronic pain.

Professor Qingping Xie is a pioneering figure in the field of neurodegenerative disease surgery, renowned for his innovative surgical methodology, Deep Cervical Lymphaticovenous Anastomosis (LVA), developed at Hangzhou Qiushi Hospital. This avant-garde technique is designed to create a pathway for the efficient removal of toxic protein accumulations from the brain, addressing a fundamental mechanism behind Alzheimer’s disease and other neurodegenerative conditions. Prof. Zhen Yuan is a leading expert in neuroimaging and cognitive neuroscience, currently serving as a Professor at the Centre for Cognitive and Brain Sciences and the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Macau. I hold a Master’s degree in neuroscience from King’s College London, where I have specialized in molecular neurobiology and neurodegenerative disease research. My work includes CRISPR-Cas9 genome editing, zebrafish behavioral models, RT-PCR, and confocal microscopy, with a focus on conditions such as ALS, Alzheimer’s, and Duchenne muscular dystrophy. I have been part of collaborative research projects across India, the UK, and the US, and I am passionate about advancing translational neuroscience.

Epilepsy is a neurological disorder characterized by recurrent seizures, which can affect individuals’ daily lives significantly. Understanding the public’s knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) towards epilepsy is crucial for effective health education and management strategies. This study aimed to assess the perception, attitude and practice among a rural population in Sudan towards epilepsy. Method and Materials: This study was a descriptive cross-sectional, community-based study conducted in March 2023 at a rural area in Gezira state in the central part of Sudan. A self-constructed questionnaire was designed by authors based on revision of previous similar studies. It consisted of four domains: The first domain was about sociodemographic data (age, gender, occupation, residence and educational level). The second, third and fourth domains consisted of questions regarding knowledge, attitude and practice. 150 participants were involved in this study and data was analysed by SPSS version 22. Results: The total number of participant in this study was 150 individuals. The majority (83) were females (55.3%) and 36% of respondents were in the age group (15-30). The overall net result of KAP of the participants in this study towards epilepsy was as follows: for knowledge it was 67.9%, attitude 63.5% and practice 53.9%. There was no significant association between gender and knowledge of epilepsy, P-value 0.887. Conclusion: The current study’s findings underscore the need for targeted educational interventions to dispel myths and misconceptions about epilepsy. Increasing awareness through community-based programs can help reduce the stigma and improve the quality of life for epileptic individuals. Comparative analysis with other studies highlights the universal challenge of epilepsy-related stigma and the critical role of education in mitigating its impact.
